Ambassadors

The Ambassadors are a very important part of the Chamber and are selected on the basis of their leadership, engagement, energy and integrity. Ambassadors help in many ways: they attend ribbon cuttings, work at networking events (such as the Business Before Hours and Business After Hours), support larger Chamber events (such as the Annual Meeting and State of the Economy Luncheon), and serve as liaisons between new members and the Chamber community at large. Ambassadors also provide a communication link between the Chamber and the local business community. Through their participation in Chamber events and outreach, they are key in helping members understand how they can best use the Chamber’s programs and services.

Nathan Long

LMI Builders, Inc.

Click for Bio

Who is Nathan Long?
I was born and raised in the triad area and I’m proud to call it home. I have a degree in Civil Engineering from UNC Charlotte and have been in project management ever since I graduated in 2005. The projects I have worked on since that time have ranged from a small $5,000 upfit to a new $40 million dollar industrial facility. Currently, I am a project manager for LMI Builders and take pride in the role I’ve had in helping revitalize downtown.

What is LMI Builders, Inc.?
LMI Builders Inc. is a triad-based general contractor with a reputation for quality, workmanship, and customer satisfaction. Our superb staff of employees take pride in bringing our clients the best building we can provide. We are experienced in every aspect of construction, including but not limited to office, retail, restaurant and industrial jobs. A unique field of expertise is in historical restorations and helping clients receive historical tax credits for their projects.

What brought you to your current career?
During college I studied Civil Engineering however I soon realized that as a career this usually equates to sitting behind a computer and designing the same thing repeatedly. I wanted to be challenged and loved the idea that every project offers something different with unique challenges and hurdles that you need to work through.

How has being a Winston-Salem Chamber member influenced your business?
Being in the W-S Chamber has been a great way to get connected with business owners in the community. The networking events held by them always brings a crowd and new people to connect with.

What do you enjoy about being as Ambassador?
The opportunity to meet business just coming to the area and helping them get involved and take advantage of all Winston-Salem has to offer.

Matthew McKeown

Cannon and Company-Cannon Wealth Management

Click for Bio

Who is Matthew McKeown?
I have served in leadership roles for over fifteen years that segue the Hospitality/Restaurant industry and financial management arenas. Promoted to management at the age of eighteen, I soon advanced at 23 years of age to District Manager of a failing district. I guided my team to execute not only the largest profit increase in the region, but also in a record-setting time period for the company. After my district earned Top District for ten consecutive months, I was voted Manager of the Year.

In 2013, I transitioned to the financial management industry in order to maximize the quality time I could spend with my wife and three children. Within my first two years in the financial arena, I set four organization records and became one of the company’s top fifteen financial advisers in the U.S. I have served as a Board Member for the Piedmont Down Syndrome Support Network, an Ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the LIONS B2B Referral Group, and a Board Member at the Piedmont Club in downtown Winston-Salem.

What is Cannon and Company-Cannon Wealth Management?
Cannon Wealth Management Services offers more than traditional investing services. Our firm is led by experienced financial planners who will help you to identify and implement innovative, practical solutions to today's individual and business financial challenges.

At Cannon Wealth Management Services, we pride ourselves in giving you the assurance that the personal assistance you receive comes from years of advanced training, technical experience and financial acumen. Our firm's commitment to quality service and professional excellence is widely recognized and well-earned.

What brought you to your current career?
The last line of my E-Harmony Profile stated that I would rather work 40 hours a week and have quality time with my family than 80 hours and end up with a huge bank account that I was too busy for. My wife reminded me of that while I was away on a 10-month business consulting trip in Maryland.

How has being a Winston-Salem Chamber member influenced your business?
Wow! My journey with the chamber began almost 10 years ago. In the beginning I treated my chamber membership with the “If you build it they will come” mentality. I have since realized that I was looking at it through the wrong lens. You see, the chamber is the ball field and I am the fan. Not the other way around. Every time I go back to the Chamber I learn of another resource available. For example, did you know the chamber offered free market research? I didn’t either. It is so much more than a “sales person networking swamp.” My business wouldn’t be where it is without this partnership.

What do you enjoy about being as Ambassador?
This is really summed up in one word. Mentorship. I have the unique opportunity to recruit and mentor new members so that they will not fall down the same path I did early on. Knowing an ambassador and learning from them is what helped my business to grow, and positioned me to be a “connector” for my clients.

Thrivent Financial is an amazing company that has been named to the world’s most ethical companies 5 times now. We're more than financial services. We're a not-for-profit, membership organization of Christians – and we're starting a new conversation about money.

What brought you to your current career?
At the young age of 9 I was sitting in my 3rd grade class (the teacher asked us what we wanted to do when we grew up, of course after I retired from the NFL, I looked at her and said I have no idea) She made me write a list of things that I enjoyed to do and realized that I really loved to help people and had a unique understanding and passion for money. I started asking around about what people did and luckily for me my Uncle “V” was in town. He is a well-known financial Advisor from Chicago; he explained how he helped his clients manage the money so that they could have a retirement that they deserved. BINGO I made up my mind and the rest is history in the making.

How has being a Winston-Salem Chamber member influenced your business?
The chamber has been one of the most important tools in growing my business. It is a tool though and you have to know how to use it. The chamber has been an opportunity for me to get connected to the people in Winston Salem that might have never happened without the Chamber.

What do you enjoy about being as Ambassador?
Explaining to people the importance of the Chamber and that they need to leverage the Chamber to their unique situation.

I specialize in Employee Benefits and am certified in Small Business, Commercial Driver, and Law Enforcement Officer Legal Plans. I have received specialized training in the area of Identity Theft from the United States DOJ, Kroll, the world’s leading risk consulting company, Winston-Salem Police Department and is mentored by Morgan Wright, an internationally recognized expert on cybersecurity strategy, cyber terrorism, identity theft and privacy and John P. Gardner Jr., a nationally recognized expert on Identity Theft and author or “If You Are Me, Then Who Am I” and Chicken Soup for the Entrepreneur’s Soul. What is LegalShield Business Solutions/IDShield?
IDShield is the most comprehensive Identity Theft Protection available to consumers today and has been for 16 years. Powered by Kroll, IDShield monitors a consumer’s identity from multiple angles, provides a $5 Million Dollar Service Guarantee and will restore a member’s identity to pre-theft status without any additional cost to our members.

LegalShield is a 44 year old company that has disrupted the way legal services for individuals, families and business are delivered, making access to the legal system and your rights available and affordable to everyone in the United States and Canada. At LegalShield we believe in the American Dream and the right of every person to be free of legal hassles so they can focus their attention on the pursuit of happiness. At LegalShield we provide a range of services designed to protect and enhance the lives of millions.

What brought you to your current career?
In 2006 my wife’s Identify was stolen. Through that painful event I learned just how vulnerable we all are to the ravages of Identity Theft. After losing almost $18,000, enduring a law suit, having wages garnished and taking 4+ years to put our lives back together I learned about IDShield and how this catastrophe could be minimized and prevented. Helping others from being a victim is my personal mission.

As a police officer, I experienced firsthand what the lack of access to the legal system can do to someone. Since the world we live in revolves around the law, having access to experience and affordable legal help to make good decisions and stay out of trouble really made sense to me. From providing Estate Planning to giving someone affordable access to an attorney to make better family decisions and prevent being taken advantage of, I feel good about what I do.

How has being a Winston-Salem Chamber member influenced your business?
The Winston-Salem Chamber has been instrumental in the growth of my business. It had opened up opportunities for me to grow my business, provide exposure and also had provided valuable educational and marketing tools that I needed as a new entrepreneur.

What do you enjoy about being as Ambassador?
I enjoy being able to support the values of the Chamber, being liaison for members, learning about the great business that make up the business landscape of Winston-Salem and the additional access it provides me to open new doors for growing my business.
