The Chamber works with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools in a number of ways to promote specific areas of workforce development, ensuring that employers in these areas will have a skilled workforce in the future. Our efforts include:
A joint effort between Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and the National Academy Foundation, the Academy of Finance is a “school within a school” at East Forsyth and West Forsyth high schools. Students in the Academy are required to take academically challenging courses in business, social studies, math and language arts. The Chamber assists this effort by connecting the program with businesspeople who can share their expertise in the classroom and businesses that can offer field trips, job shadowing, and internships.
An Academy of Finance Advisory Board, comprised of industry professionals, finds ways to make the program more effective and find students internship opportunities. We encourage you to get involved and develop the future workforce of our financial services industry. For more information, please contact Rodessa Mitchell at (336) 728-9222.
Tourism A joint effort between Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and the National Academy Foundation, the Academy of Hospitality & Tourism provides high school students with information about career paths and real world opportunities in the hospitality and tourism industries. Along with their required academic courses, Academy students take one or two specialized, industry-related courses each semester. The Chamber works with local businesses to extend the classroom experience by arranging field trips, job shadowing and internship experiences. The Academy is located at Carver High School.
