Second Chance Initiative

The Chamber is committed to helping our fellow citizens get the second chance at employment that they deserve. Below are community resources that will assist those with criminal records in finding employment and/or training opportunities. Please contact each agency directly for assistance.

Project Reentry
The Project Re-entry program offers employment and training services that help former offenders find jobs and become productive members of the community. Project Reentry partners with the Criminal Justice Department of the Piedmont Triad Regional Council and prisons within the Department of Public Safety to offer a system of pre- and post-release services that begin with inmates up to eighteen months prior to release. Long-term services continue after the inmates are released. Email for more information or call (336) 724-3625 ext. 1332.

Northwest Piedmont Workforce Development Board
Find success after exiting incarceration could be a challenge, but with some hard work, determination, and learning how to market yourself and align yourself with a network of people who can help you, the Northwest Piedmont Workforce Development Board will help you rebuild and be better than ever.

NCWorks Online is a one-stop online resource for job seekers and employers in North Carolina. Job seekers can search for jobs, create resumes, and find education and training. Employers can find candidates, post jobs, and search labor market information. NCWorks is a service of the Northwest Piedmont Workforce Development Board.

Project SOAR
The Successful Outcomes After Release Program (SOAR) is designed to provide gainful employment to former offenders that meet program guidelines while supplementing the city’s existing workforce in areas of critical need.

Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministries
The Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministries provides Christian counsel to help inmates prepare for a life outside of prison. In addition to ministering to inmates, one of their key goals is to provide a variety of skills that help inmates adjust to life after imprisonment. From teaching coping mechanisms and finding employment, to avoiding the behaviors that got them into trouble, they offer a wide range of services that help inmates survive in jail, and thrive outside of it.

Community Success Initiative
Through a network of community partners, they work with men and women in prison, former prisoners, people in transition, and their families through our “Resource Center Without Walls”. They provide small group trainings and individual mentoring in general life skills, leadership, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and areas related to transitioning back into family and community life.

NC Second Chance Alliance
The NC Second Chance Alliance is a statewide alliance of advocacy organizations, service providers, faith-based organizations, community leaders and interested citizens that have come together to achieve the safe and successful reintegration of adults and juveniles with criminal records by promoting policies that remove barriers to productive citizenship.
