Technology Council

From Ideas to Action. That's the modus operandi of the Technology Council.

The Council and its four committees function as a collaborative forum and think tank bringing together representatives from more than 350 high-tech companies as well as educational institutions, elected officials and the general business community.

Through this coordinated meeting of the minds, valuable new ideas and insights are generated to enhance our area's growth as a technology-centered economy. These ideas are then put into action by the Council and the Chamber.

(Our efforts have been internationally recognized. In 2004, the Technology Council was presented the Technology-Based Economic Development Award, sponsored by Angelou Economics.)

The Council's key action areas are:

EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
It takes the right people to drive a high-tech economy. By working in concert with local businesses and our area's educational institutions, the Council helps ensure that our workforce has the appropriate curriculum, training and skills to support future growth in key technology segments.

NETWORKING EVENTS
Talented people like to get together to socialize, share ideas and form professional relationships. Providing that opportunity is an important part of attracting and retaining a highly skilled workforce. That's why the Council organizes seminars, lectures and social activities designed specifically for the high-tech community. Register for upcoming events here!

TECHNOLOGY ISSUES
The operational needs of technology-based companies can be very different from those of traditional industries. Consequently, the Council serves as the technology industry's advocate, educating local and state officials about the unique requirements of high-tech businesses and the issues that affect them.

PUBLIC RELATIONS
It pays to get the word out. The Council has the primary responsibility for promoting Winston-Salem's technology initiatives and the city's image as a technology center.

The Council sends a steady stream of news releases to regional and national media and also sponsors an annual Technology Briefing for local media, elected officials and community leaders.
