Partnerships & Volunteer Opportunities
Through our partnership and volunteer opportunities, the business community can make meaningful contributions to help students prepare for life and work after graduation. The Chamber encourages members to get involved with our educational efforts through a variety of programs:
Workforce Development & Career Readiness
Our workforce development initiatives are designed to promote student achievement, create career awareness, and help students make choices about their future careers. To participate in industry-specific school partnerships, sign up as a classroom speaker, and more, visit the link below.
Volunteers for the Senior Academy program provide one-on-one mentoring for 12th-grade students who are in jeopardy of dropping out. Mentors are expected to spend at least one hour per week meeting with their student from late September through May.
For program details or if you would like to become a mentor, contact Tina Long at 336-728-9204.
Corporate Volunteers Program
This volunteer program pairs Kindergarten through 2nd-grade students with volunteers who spend an hour each week working with their student on reading and language skills.
The program was created in 1999 through a collaborative partnership with the Winston Salem Chamber of Commerce and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. The current corporate sponsor of the program is Kaplan Early Learning Company.
During the 2017-18 school year, 83 businesses and organizations provided more than 300 volunteers to kindergarten, 1st and 2nd-grade students in the program.
The Corporate Volunteers Program promotes positive mentoring relationships, community involvement and development, and celebrates diversity by crossing racial, social, and economic boundaries.
To sign up your organization or to participate as an individual, contact Jennifer Cobb at 336-728-9219.
