Work Ready for Career Success
ASPIRE WS serves high school juniors and seniors through a holistic training approach designed to support students in becoming work ready, paving the way for career success. WS/FCS students at participating high schools can enroll in the GWS Work Ready Credential program designed for students to gain transferrable knowledge and skills to actively demonstrate in the workplace to support the achievement of career goals. Students who complete the program become eligible to interview for summer internships.

Work Ready Credential
Step 1
Courses Offered: Spring or Fall
When: 5 evening sessions, 1 full-day workshop (15 hours total)
Stipend: $500 upon completion
Students will gain skills to build a solid foundation of workplace readiness they can use in career planning and goal setting. Sessions include topics such as self-discovery, building a personal brand, communication, conflict management, professionalism, creating a resume, and connecting with local business professionals to talk about careers. The capstone session of the program is an employability workshop that includes programming led by local business professionals and educational institutions. Upon completion, students will receive a $500 stipend and a Work Ready credential from Greater Winston-Salem, Inc.
Transportation and meals are provided.
Internships
Step 2
Internships Offered: Summer
Pay: At least $10/hour
Students who complete the Work Ready Credential program (Step 1) are eligible to interview for paid Summer internships.
Students will interview and be placed with host companies for a minimum of 80 hours and up to 135 hours in the internship term. Transportation may be provided. Interns are guaranteed at least $10 per hour. Students gain work-based learning experience to further expand their knowledge, skills, and abilities in the world of work and pave the way to career success.
