Grand Opening of Simulation Lab on August 28

BAYADA Pediatrics, a specialty practice of BAYADA Home Health Care, will celebrate the grand opening of its Simulation Training Lab, providing area nurses with access to the most advanced training of its kind in the area.

“We invite nurses to our open house to learn how simulation training can help further their career, increase their competency and provide better care in the home,” shared BAYADA Pediatrics Director Dena Hinkle.

The grand opening celebration will take place on Thursday, August 28 from 8 am to 6 pm at BAYADA Pediatrics, 1605 Westbrook Plaza Drive, Suite 101 in Winston-Salem. Representatives from the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce will preside over the grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony at noon.

The event will also feature tours and hands-on demonstrations of the Simulation Training Lab, refreshments, and a raffle drawing for a Kindle Fire.  In addition, nurses are invited to attend a free continuing education program on Stress and Stress Management offered at 10 am, 2 pm, and 4 pm.

According to Hinkle, the Simulation Training Lab uses state-of-the-art pediatric mannequins to train nurses in a controlled environment to care for pediatric patients with a multitude of symptoms and to deal with emergency situations.

“Home care is a welcome and viable option for many children with complex medical needs,” explained Hinkle.  “Advanced technology that was previously only available in a hospital or long-term care setting is now available in the home.  Because home care professionals work one-on-one with their patients in the home setting, training and support are critical.”

According to Hinkle, the life-like mannequins simulate breathing, crying, coughing, and hiccupping; they are equipped with heart sounds that include normal heart rate and murmurs, they can experience a realistic seizure, change their color and vital signs in response to treatment, and allow nurses to practice wound care and insertion and care of a tracheostomy tube and ventilator.
