The YMCA is one of the nation’s leading nonprofits, working to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Anchored in communities across seven counties, the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina engages more than 115,000 men, women and children annually – regardless of age, income or background – to nurture the potential of children and teens, improve the community’s health and well-being, and provide opportunities to give back and support neighbors.
Recently celebrating the organization’s 125th anniversary, one thing has remained at the center of all they do – the Y’s mission, “Helping people reach their God-given potential in spirit, mind and body.” Today, the Y is working to close the academic achievement gap through YMCA Summer Learning Academies, offering programs such as Healthy, Fit and Strong and the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program to help children and adults live healthier, and continuing to provide high quality programs that families can afford, as well as financial assistance for those struggling to make ends meet.
The Y brings friends and neighbors together over shared interests. Membership at the Y provides access to wellness and aquatics facilities, group exercise classes, and savings on programs such as Boot Camps, Summer Camp, Youth and Adult Sports, and Swim Lessons. Donations to the YMCA Annual Giving Campaign provide financial assistance so the Y never turns anyone away due to the inability to pay.
The Y has the long-standing relationships and physical presence to deliver lasting personal and social change. Learn more at www.ymcanwnc.org.
