The Original Mast General Store was built in 1883 and is located in Valle Crucis, North Carolina. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places as one of the best remaining examples of an old country general store, it was family owned until the 1970s when it went through several owners and closed for the winter of 1977.
A young couple from Florida discovered the store was for sale. With input from the community and long-time vendors, the store re-opened in 1980 stocked with items found in general stores long ago that are still useful today.
Customer service is a primary focus of the Mast General Store family. To be genuine in each interaction and to actively listen to each guest’s needs to be able to meet them.
Carrying on the traditions of a general store, the Mast Store supports its communities through volunteering and forming partnerships with non-profit groups active in environmental, human needs, education, and the arts that are mutually beneficial.
The Mast General Store is an employee-owned company with 10 locations in three states as well as an online presence. All invite their guests and customers to wander into way back when.
