With the arrival of the Summer season, The Katharine celebrates its multi-faceted bar program and refurbished patio with the introduction of executive chef Adam Barnett’s first specialty bar menu and the appointment of Levi Fryer as its new lead bartender.

Chef Barnett, who offers classic French brasserie dishes in the dining room, now reveals a smart bar menu to complement The Katharine’s bustling bar scene, available every evening. A hearty Lobster Roll ($15) on brioche bun, made with a fennel and celery root remoulade, and crispy chicken wings, or ‘L’Ailes de Poulet’ ($12), confit’d and served with Barnett’s smoked onion “ranch” and Zo’s Hot Sauce, are joined by current favorites such as the house-ground Brasserie Burger ($17) made with Joyce Farms beef and raclette cheese, and the Truffle Frites ($8) and brown butter-Spiced Nuts ($8).

“French brasseries are known for the welcoming restaurant and bar experience they offer guests on all occasions,” explained Chef Barnett. “We want to be that for Winston-Salem locals, and not only as part of an upscale and formal dining experience,” Barnett explained. “Whether you’re stopping in after work or planning an entire evening out, our new bar menu and festive outdoor patio provide an approachable and casual way to enjoy this iconic setting, indoors and out.” (The Katharine’s regular dinner menu is also available in the bar and patio at all times.)

The Katharine’s renovated outdoor patio extends the comfortable bar experience just in time for the summer season. New oversized umbrellas, foliage and a garage door, creating an open-air setting and unique indoor-outdoor bar, coupled by state state-of-the-art noise reduction improvements throughout the bar and restaurant, lend to a lively and summery al fresco bar setting for indulging in libations and modestly-priced bar plates on the new bar menu. Music and games are also contributing to the festive setting.

The Katharine’s cocktail program – featuring originals, classics and infusions – is now stronger than ever, led by Winston-Salem native Levi Fryer. One of the area’s most skilled bartenders, Fryer honed his skills at Tate’s Craft Cocktails and Small Batch Beer Co before beginning with The Katharine in 2017. In addition to creating and executing the cocktail program – including house-made infusions as in the Cucumber Martini, Pineapple Daiquiri, Strawberry Gin Fizz and Habanero Margarita – Fryer also trains The Katharine’s bar team and lends his expertise to cocktail and beer pairings. The Rosemary Snazzy, featuring Rittenhouse Rye, Mekow Cognac, Lucid Absinthe and Rosemary, is one of his personal favorites.
