The next engine of economic growth for North Carolina encompasses Forsyth County and the Piedmont Triad, in a region called the Carolina Core. The Carolina Core initiative was established with the end goal in mind: 50,000 new jobs by 2038.

CarolinaCore Map

The Carolina Core is an emerging megasite corridor between Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point and Fayetteville at the heart of North Carolina bridging the urban corridor with Charlotte and the Research Triangle. The development of four megasites (7,500+/- acres), plus industrial sites, urban research parks and mixed-use developments, present large-scale economic transformation opportunities. Combining these megasites with a labor shed of two million workers, fueled by the innovation mindset of more than 30 colleges and universities, positions the Carolina Core globally as a compelling expansion site for industry.

Through the Carolina Core strategy, our region is shifting how we think about economic development to win transformational business expansion and relocations together, as a region. This long-term strategic initiative positions our cumulative assets in transportation, education, workforce, and more to have a bigger impact.

Preliminary feedback from site selection consultants has revealed that the newly defined Carolina Core resonates because it focuses on the assets that businesses need to succeed, rather than traditional lines and boundaries.

Since launching the Carolina Core initiative in August 2018, we have collectively announced more than 10,000 new jobs in the region.

We are stronger together, and when we come together to tell our collective story of all this region has to offer, we can accomplish great things!
