1,500 Martial Arts Students Set Goal to Raise $30,000 for other kids in need.

On June 9th, tae kwon do students from Clemmons, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and High Point will be coming together for a Board-Break-A-thon at Forsyth County Day School.

The event is called Kicking for Miracles and this is the 13th year that Tiger Kim’s World Class Tae Kwon Do has sponsored such an event for the community. So far, over 13 years, students from Tiger Kim’s have been able to raise over $177,000. In 2017, students raised $27,300 and the goal for 2018 is to raise over $30,000 to help the children at the Brenner Children’s Hospital.

Similar to a walk-a-thon or dance-a thon, Kicking for Miracles is a board-break-a-thon. Students of all ages and belt ranks will be breaking a total of 3,000 boards with a variety of kicks, punches, and strikes. The community is also invited to join in and help the students break boards.

Tiger Kim’s president, Master Woo Sup Kim, believes that it is important to help teach children at a young age the importance of giving back to the community. “We are excited to help our students join with the community to make such an important impact to better the lives of children in need. We believe that this event represents the spirit of tae kwon do, which is to develop oneself physically, mentally, and spiritually. As instructors, we encourage our students to apply these traits to their daily lives and Kicking for Miracles is an excellent example of that philosophy put in action,” says Master Woo Sup Kim.

The community is invited to join the students from Tiger Kim’s World Class Tae Kwon Do at Forsyth Country Day School for this event. At the top of each hour, there will be a Demonstration Team Performance followed by fun classes and lots of board breaking. For guests, instructors will be on hand to teach them how to break a board. “We want this to be a community event,” say Master Woo Sup Kim.

Opening Ceremony is scheduled for 12:00 noon. Local dignitaries and a representative from Brenner Children’s Hospital will speak to the students and guests.
