Next Tuesday, November 18, the Fall Series of Seminars continues at the Reynolda Branch of the Library (2839 Fairlawn Drive, across from the Reynolda Manor Shopping Center), and I invite you and your friends to them.

The first free seminar on Tuesday, November 18 at 2:00 pm is on the Basics of Social Security Disability Law. An increasing number of people have medical (physical and mental) conditions that prevent them from being employed, although they have had good jobs earlier in their career. One of my partners, Michael Wells, who has helped scores of our clients obtain benefits, will review with us the basic requirements, and work with me to take your questions.

At 3:00 pm the second free seminar will be on Basics of Estate Planning. The legislature recently changed a number of important wills and estate planning laws, including tax law changes. These changes and other basic laws and documents will be discussed, and I will take your questions. And email me if you want a courtesy copy of the summary of new laws from the 2014 session of the North Carolina Legislature.

The 4:00 pm free seminar will be on Elder Law Care/Medicaid Qualification, including what to do about the concerns of our families about the rising costs of nursing homes and assisted living centers. I will walk us through the basic issues, and discuss common planning steps so many families take to address these challenges.

You do not need a reservation, but call us at 336-283-8700, or email me at [email protected], if you have any questions. As a past President of the North Carolina Bar Association (2012-2013), I actively encouraged lawyers across our state to make these kinds of free seminars available to our citizens at well-known public venues such as libraries. I am glad to continue to be part of our longstanding series of free seminars here in the Triad. I hope to see you on Tuesday, November 18!
